Rationale

There are many active senior (60+) tennis players in Calgary, who enjoy the social and health benefits of doubles tennis (men’s, women’s and mixed).

Seniors are available to play during the daytime (9.00 a.m. to 2.00pm). Our league is designed to avoid taking up already busy evening court times and to avoid intense late afternoon heat.

Interclub tennis is fun because it allows members to represent their clubs and to visit and play at other courts throughout the city (indoors and outdoors). It encourages social interaction – an important factor for retirees.

We generally get together immediately post match for food and drink at the host club or a nearby establishment. This is a great way to get to know other players from different areas of the city.

There are many articles extolling the benefits of tennis, such as:

  2. NY Times “The best sport for a longer life. Try tennis.” https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/05/well/move/the-best-sport-for-a-longer-life-try-tennis.html#:~:text=a%20Longer%20Life%3F-,Try%20Tennis.,who%20cycled%2C%20swam%20or%20jogged.
